so American Airlines called yesterday afternoon to say that my flight yesterday evening was being cancelled due to weather in Chicago. They rescheduled me on a flight for this morning … but then went ahead and cancelled that about two hours later (either still from weather in Chicago, or possibly due to weather in New York, or perhapsjust for kicks).

AA called again, this time with no idea what to do for me, and put me on hold for half-an-hour to wait to speak to a representative. Once she picked up, however, all she had to say was that everything was booked/sold-out — there was nothing to Chicago.

I asked if there was something to Milwaukee, or St. Louis, or even some crazy four-part flight that connected in Atlanta/Denver. Alas, the only thing that she had was a Sunday morning booking, which is two days away.

All the other airlines are dealing with the same mess. Amtrak has no seats open. Teleportation still hasn’t even been invented yet (that I know of) … so I’m now looking at a rideshare on Craigslist with a guy leaving Saturday morning for Milwaukee. In reality — especially with the road conditions — even if I do head out tomorrow morning with him, I probably won’t make it home until just a few minutes before that flight would have gotten me there, but … I’m thinking maybe at least I’ll get to hear some good polka stories?

(can you tell I’ve been watching a lot of “Home Alone” lately?)
